Laws and Regulations Relating to Online Gambling
Online gambling is an activity that allows people to place bets on sporting events, games of chance, or other activities on the Internet. The concept has gained widespread popularity in recent years. One bill introduced in Congress in 2007 called HR 2046 (the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act) was proposed to modify the UIGEA. Under the new law, online gambling facilities must be licensed by the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. That organization’s director is charged with licensing and regulating Internet gambling sites.
Other attacks have been based on the First Amendment’s guarantee of free speech. Despite the popularity of online gambling, many people believe that nothing will ever replace the casino experience.
